English Professor
English professors at Midlands Technical College are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction across a range of courses, including composition, literature, and technical and professional communications. Faculty members typically teach five sections during the Fall and Spring semesters, with the possibility of teaching additional courses as needed to support departmental offerings and student demand. Instruction may be delivered in a variety of formats, including traditional, hybrid, and online modalities, utilizing the college's learning management system and other digital tools to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, professors contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement efforts by aligning course content with institutional goals and industry standards. This includes assessing student performance, maintaining accurate and timely records, and submitting reports related to instructional activities. Faculty members participate in the collection, analysis, and use of data related to student learning outcomes and competencies to inform teaching practices and support student success initiatives.
English professors maintain regular office hours to provide academic support, mentorship, and guidance to students outside the classroom. They are expected to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages critical thinking, effective communication, and academic integrity. Service to the college is an essential component of the role. Faculty members serve on college, school, and department committees, contributing to governance, program development, and institutional initiatives.
They also assist with department and school-level student engagement efforts, such as events, workshops, and outreach activities designed to enhance the student experience. Ongoing professional development is required to stay current with best practices in teaching, emerging trends in English studies, and advances in educational technology. Faculty members are encouraged to engage in scholarly activities, attend conferences, and participate in training opportunities that support both personal growth and the mission of Midlands Technical College.
This position will be located on the Midlands Technical College Beltline Campus.
