Position Summary:

The Cline School of Music at North Greenville University is taking applications for an adjunct bass instructor. Primary responsibility will be teaching private bass lessons to undergraduate students.

North Greenville University is a teaching university of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and is a tobacco and alcohol-free campus. All NGU professors are expected to be orthodox Christians who have a strong personal faith, are role models in their piety and ethics, are regularly reflecting upon how their faith influences their discipline and are willing and able to mentor students in their own relationship with Jesus Christ.

Affirm understanding of, and willingness not to teach contrary to, the University’s Statement on Human Flourishing RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for teaching private bass lessons to undergraduate students, including majors, minors, and elective.

Prepare for course(s) by organizing and becoming familiar with student material

Prepare lesson plans and course material as required

Effectively organize and present subject matter to students

Objectively assess students for academic performance

Ensure security of assessment tools and confidential documentation

Effectively utilize Canvas learning management system

Appropriately maintain student records, grades, and attendance to ensure accuracy

Meet all university deadlines for syllabi and grade submission PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Hearing:
Hear well enough to teach bass lessons

Dexterity:
Ability to demonstrate performance techniques

Mobility:
Teach classes, move between departments, and attend meetings across campus.

Talking:
Teaching classes and private lessons.

Cognitive/Emotional:
Ability to critically think and concentrate.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS This position is a part-time position in the Cline School of Music and reports first to the director of string studies, and then to the Associate Dean of the School.

WORK SCHEDULE The working hours of the University are M thru F 8:00 to 5:00, however times beyond those may be required. The schedule of the adjunct will be determined by the mutually determined teaching assignments.

Master’s degree in bass music or a related field

Preference will be given to applicants holding a terminal degree

Experience and a passion for teaching

Evidence of scholarly potential
