Outreach Education Specialist
The South Carolina State Museum Education team is seeking an energetic, organized, and relationship-focused Outreach Education Specialist to strengthen the museum's connections with K–12 educators and increase awareness of the museum as a premier educational resource for South Carolina schools.
Working under the direction of the Manager of Education & Experiences and in close collaboration with the K–12 Education Coordinator, this position serves as one of the museum's representatives at educator conferences, professional development events, school resource fairs, district meetings, and other K–12 education-focused events. The Outreach Education Specialist coordinates outreach scheduling, educator engagement efforts, and helps cultivates relationships that encourage increased school visitation and participation in museum educational programs.
Responsibilities& Duties
Teacher Engagement & School Partnerships:
- Serve as an ambassador for the museum's educational programs at teacher conferences, professional development events, district meetings, and education resource fairs throughout South Carolina.
- Help to build and maintain positive relationships with teachers, instructional coaches, administrators, district leaders, and other education professionals.
- Promote museum field trips, educational programs, teacher professional development opportunities, homeschool offerings, and educational resources.
- Coordinate educator follow-up communications and assist with connecting schools to appropriate museum staff and resources.
- Maintain awareness and calendar mapping of educational conferences, district events, and partnership opportunities that support increased school visitation.
Outreach Coordination & Logistics:
- Coordinate the museum's K–12 outreach calendar, ensuring efficient scheduling of conferences, educator events, school visits, and related outreach activities.
- Prepare materials, displays, educational resources, promotional items, and exhibits for conferences and outreach events.
- Coordinate transportation, equipment, registration materials, and event logistics.
- Maintain outreach calendars, registrations, contact databases, and event documentation.
- Track educator contacts and assist with evaluating outreach efforts and participation trends.
- Must be comfortable driving long distances (up to 6hrs in a single day) in both early morning and late-night hours.
Educational Programs & Professional Learning:
- Support and assist with teacher professional development workshops hosted by the museum.
- Present workshops, informational sessions, and museum overviews for educators as needed.
- Deliver school outreach programs, STEAM Nights, Family Science Nights, and other educational presentations when aligned with departmental priorities.
- Support K–12 educational programming and special events at the museum as needed.
Resource Management & Department Support:
- Coordinate the organization, inventory, transportation, and maintenance of education outreach equipment, educational materials, promotional resources, and conference displays.
- Conduct regular inventory checks to ensure education outreach materials remain complete, organized, and event-ready.
- Monitor supply levels and assist with purchasing recommendations for education outreach and promotional materials.
- Maintain organized digital records, calendars, educator contact lists, and event documentation using Microsoft 365 applications.
- Assist with data collection, reporting, and evaluation of outreach activities and educator engagement.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the museum's educational mission.
- High school diploma required. Associate's or bachelor's degree in Education, or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education or relevant professional experience.
- Experience working with educators, schools, museums, nonprofits, or educational organizations.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple events, schedules, and deadlines simultaneously.
