POSITION PURPOSE

To enable students to develop communication skills needed to achieve their maximum academic and social potential.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Conduct evaluation of students with communicative disorders.
  • Evaluate and diagnose speech and language disorders.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans to meet the unique needs of each student receiving therapy service.
  • Develop appropriate service delivery models to meet the needs of students.
  • Refer students to other professional and community agencies when needed.
  • Consult with classroom teachers and other school personnel to facilitate carry‑over of therapy gains into classroom activities.
  • Provide information, support, and guidance to parents/guardians and families.
  • Assist teachers in the identification of children with communicative disorders.
  • Maintain records for students evaluated and receiving services.
  • Inform administrators and other members of the educational team of program developments and student progress.
  • Engage in personal professional growth and demonstrate professional ethics and leadership.
  • Coordinate services with other school programs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Special Education, Chief Instructional Services Officer, Superintendent, or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have a valid South Carolina teaching license or be able to obtain one within 60 days from being hired.
EXPERIENCE
  • Must have completed a program of study in Speech Therapy education from an accredited college or university.
