Automotive Technology Teacher
Job Goal:
To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation including being a CTE completer in Automotive Technology, obtaining a high school diploma, achieving Silver or above on the WIN test, achieving one or more ASE certifications, and obtaining work-based learning opportunities.
Performance Responsibilities:
Is competent in the subject area. Uses long and short-term planning to organize course skills and content. Plans daily activities with written evidence of preparation. Plans for student differences; enrichment and remediation opportunities provided. Provides for a high degree of pupil participation with a stress on hands-on activities. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom and lab behavior;
minimizes classroom and lab distractions. Classroom and lab rules/procedures clearly stated, consistently enforced, and well understood by all students. States lesson objectives clearly. Employs varied approaches in presenting lessons. Summarizes the lesson and actively involves students in its closure when possible. Has a neat and safe classroom and lab. Evaluates student progress on a regular basis; includes assessments of progress in planning.
Communicates high expectations for student performance.
Qualifications:
Minimum of high school diploma/GED; technical college degree preferred.
Work experience:
Hands-on work experience as an automotive technician; prior instructor experience preferred. Minimum of four (4) years direct work experience in automotive technology required. Must have or be eligible to obtain CTE teacher certification from the SC State Department Of Education. Must possess ASE Certification OR be eligible for ASE Certification within first two years of teaching.
