Special Education Instructional Assistant
Under occasional supervision, performs specialized work by assisting teachers in instructing and directing the activities of students in the assigned classroom to provide a well organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment. Assists school administrators and staff with various administrative and clerical functions as requested.
Reports To:
Administration and assigned classroom teacher
Performance Responsibilities: (includes but is not limited to)
- Assist students with assignments as instructed by the teacher
- Work in small groups on classroom activities under the supervision of the teacher.
- Perform tasks and errands for students as necessary; providing basic locomotion, first aid, feeding, hygiene, toileting, changing clothing, etc.
- Participate in staff development training workshops to learn and update skills related to the position.
- Perform other classroom duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Physical Requirements :
Requires light work that involves walking, bending, or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations. Must have ability to physically restrain a student if called upon to do so after proper training. May also be required to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
Terms of Employment: 185 days on Classified Salary Schedule Grade 7 or 8 based on credentials
