Who We Are:

GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs and is a federally funded partnership with the University of South Carolina. As part of the USC GEAR UP grant, our company will be working with 8th, 9th and 12th grade students this year in an early college advising series designed to promote academic success and raise college awareness.

Job Description:

As a Success Coach, you will play a crucial role in guiding middle school students on the path to college. We are seeking energetic individuals with a proven track record of success in college. In this role, you will help design and execute programming with students in diverse academic environments. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to engage students in a classroom setting and keep accurate records, ensuring impactful contributions to our mission to support students pursuing higher education opportunities.

Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to*:

Direct Student Support (70%)
  • Teaching:
    Deliver high-quality instruction in various educational settings, fostering a positive and motivating learning environment.
  • Assessment:
    Monitor and evaluate student grasp of material, providing feedback and making necessary adjustments to instructional methods.
  • Curriculum Adjustment:
    Review provided early college advising curriculum and ensure content is tailored to the needs of your middle school students.
Relationship-Building (20%)
  • Program Implementation:
    Develop and maintain strong relationships with school administrators and staff.
  • Support CPA with monitoring fulfillment and adherence to contractual agreements with USC GEAR UP and school partners.
  • Student Needs:
    In all settings, create strong relationships with students to better tailor instruction to their needs.
Program Planning and Operations (10%)
  • Lesson Planning:
    Review provided curriculum in advance of session, ensure all materials are ready, and confirm session with point of contact
  • Organizational

    Skills:

    Maintain accurate records and assist with administrative tasks related to program implementation.
  • Work Independently:
    Demonstrate the ability to work independently and take initiative in addressing challenges and achieving program goals.
Requirements
  • Pursuing Associate’s degree or higher
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students
  • Familiarity with college admissions process
  • Highly organized with the ability to complete documentation in a timely manner
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Ability to transport self to and from scheduled school sites
Additional relevant experience (preferred, not required):
  • Some middle school or high school teaching experience
  • Strong curriculum planning and instructional design skills
