Position DetailsEVSC Special Education Assistants work throughout the school year, starting one day before school begins and ending on the last day of school. The schedule is 5 days per week at 6.75 hours per day based on the EVSC school calendar, with 27+ paid holidays during the school year. The salary schedule provides annual increases. This position is a Resource/General Education role;
employees support the needs of all students when necessary.
Yearly and hourly rates are provided below (current year positions; new employees begin in year
1):
- Year 1: $16.41/hour
- Year 2: $17.03/hour
- Year 3: $17.67/hour
- Year 4: $18.30/hour
- Year 5: $18.92/hour
- Year 6: $19.56/hour
- Year 7: $20.20/hour
- Year 8: $20.82/hour
- Year 9: $21.45/hour
- Year 10: $22.07/hour
- Year 11: $22.72/hour
- Year 12: $23.24/hour
The hourly rate for a current EVSC assistant is based on years of service in an assistant role. Annual increases are given for each year of service if the employee has worked 120 days in a school year. New employees begin in year 1.
BenefitsEVSC offers four Anthem medical insurance plans. Options include single medical, dental, and vision coverage; family coverage may be selected at additional cost. Insurance coverage begins the first of the month following a 30-day probationary period. Eligible employees may use EVSC Health & Wellness Centers for primary care, prescriptions, and labs at no cost to employees or covered family members.

EVSC offers Wee Care Learning Centers at a special employee rate. This position enrolls in PERF (pension) with a defined benefit and an ASA, and may participate in a 403(b) plan. Other voluntary insurance options include group life, long-term disability, and additional voluntary products. An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available at no cost.
RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED required. New employees must complete required online professional development within 60 days of employment.
Additional InformationVacancy is posted first for EVSC Special Education Paraprofessional transfers. If no internal transfer occurs, outside applicants may be considered. The position is based on student enrollment and may involve transfers between buildings or adjustments in hours. Enrollment is evaluated at the start of each school year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist teacher in routine classroom operation and work with students.
- Prepare instructional materials, attendance reports, and class reports.
- Supervise students during non-classroom activities (recess, lunch, transitions).
- Implement and follow teacher instructions and classroom procedures.
- Refer to teachers when they are not available.
- Assist with clerical duties (inventory, bulletin boards, collecting money, etc.).
- Demonstrate understanding of students unique needs.
- Maintain records, write board lessons, and support students work.
- Assist with loading/unloading students on buses.
- In certain classes, assist with feeding, toilet, and self-care needs; non-medical procedures related to personal hygiene and g-tube feedings may be involved.
