Position: Coordinator of Special Services (District Applicant Pool)

Special Services Coordinator

Under limited supervision, supports the development, implementation, and coordination of special education instruction, along with associated services like speech/language therapy, psychological services, and occupational/physical therapy. Offers technical assistance in identifying, evaluating, and placing students in and out of disability programs. Contributes to the creation of individualized education programs for students with disabilities and aids in ensuring District compliance with state and federal laws related to students with disabilities.

Carries out additional professional, administrative, and supervisory responsibilities as needed. Reports directly to the Director of Special Services.

Assists in the development, implementation and coordination of the District's policies and programs for students with disabilities.

Supervises the work of assigned support staff and shares responsibility for supervising school special services providers and administrators at the secondary level; supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; assisting with the selection of employees; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; acting on employee problems. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; observes and evaluates performance and makes recommendations as appropriate;

offers advice and assistance as needed.

Assists the Director with developing and facilitating professional development opportunities for special education staff.

Provides training for administrators, teachers, therapists, and other departments on procedures, legal issues, interventions, and research-based programs and services; provides training and workshops for parents as needed.

Projects special services personnel allocations and assigns personnel based on standards for secondary programs.

Assists with the development and management of general fund and special revenue budgets; approves expenditures and prepares related reports.

Researches and assists in developing the necessary applications and proposals to obtain grants for program and project funding.

Assists the Director in the development and implementation of District procedures for complying with federal regulations under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 (ADA); monitors and serves as technical advisor for school administrators and special services personnel in the implementation of these procedures.

Designs, implements, and evaluates programs and services for students with disabilities based on current research and data analysis.

Assists with the coordination of contracted services for students with disabilities, such as multi-district agreements, interagency agreements, independent occupational/physical therapy, independent psychological evaluations, medical evaluations for diagnostic purposes, private school placement, educational agreements with private programs or facilities, etc.

Assists in coordinating various types of screening programs related to student health and/or students with disabilities required by the District or the State Department of Education.

Coordinates the identification, evaluation, and placement of students into and out of programs for students with disabilities.

Attends and facilitates Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Individualized Accommodation Plan (IAP) meetings for secondary students, particularly in cases involving special circumstances or legal issues.

Assumes the role of the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative during these meetings, ensuring proper representation and adherence to applicable regulations and guidelines.
