Job Responsibilities
Serves as the Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer for Abbeville County. Ensures that Abbeville Maintenance is operating effectively and efficiently during normal and emergency operations. Supervises county personnel and equipment during inclement weather operations. Manages and supervises maintenance contract process for Abbeville Maintenance, including preparing quantities, inspecting contract work, and processing payments for routine mowing, brush management, herbicide operations, concrete repair, and other contract work performed.
Assists Resident Maintenance Engineer in the creation and implementation of the county Business Plan. Supervises the coordination of maintenance plans to include the Ditching/Drainage plan, IRVM:
Integrated Roadway Vegetation Management Plan, Patching Plan, and Sign Replacement Plan to ensure business goals are met. Responsible for personnel matters including EPMS reviews, PD generation and updates, disciplinary action, and other personnel procedures. Supervises the Encroachment Permit Process through EPPS and related inspections for all county roads. Provides technical assistance in preparing budget reports, resurfacing, and short- and long-term programs.
Investigates public complaints, work requests, and damage claims, recommends corrective action, and ensures completion. Performs other related duties as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Physical demands include sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods, occasional travel, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards.
May require working outside normal business hours or responding to emergencies.
