Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site Mechanical Engineer role based in Gray Court, SC. The Mechanical Engineer will design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for ultra-high vacuum and precision optics applications using sound engineering principles and CAD tools.
Responsibilities include creating detailed drawings and specifications, performing tolerance analyses, supporting research and development initiatives, testing prototypes, troubleshooting product issues, and implementing design improvements. The role also requires close collaboration with manufacturing, quality, sales, and engineering teams to ensure designs meet performance, cost, and schedule requirements.
This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys taking products from concept to production and working directly with specialized technologies and manufacturing processes.
Qualifications- Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering principles with experience applying them to product design and problem-solving.
- Proficiency in machine design, including materials selection, tolerance stack-ups, and mechanical assembly design.
- Strong proficiency with Solid Works for 3D modeling, assembly design, and detailed drawing creation.
- Experience with CAD software in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with project management and cross-functional collaboration.
- Background in research and development, including prototyping, testing, and design iteration.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and industry standards.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with vacuum systems, precision optics, ceramic-to-metal sealing technologies, hermetic packaging, or similar products is preferred.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, brazing, welding, and design-for-manufacturability principles is beneficial.
- Experience with electromechanical systems or product design is a plus.
- Work on products used by Fortune 500 technology companies and National Laboratories.
