Job Description
Vertiv is looking for a Supplier Quality Engineer to develop, evaluate, and improve the Vertiv product supplier base through quality management system and product process audits. The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for maintaining working relationships with suppliers to ensure the highest quality possible of purchased components and materials with a focus on continuous improvement. The role pursues quality objectives, ensures timely delivery of project deliverables, and drives the development and continuous improvement of the supplier base.
Responsibilities- Initiate and lead supplier performance improvement by partnering with suppliers to identify, understand and abate issues for New Product Development Introduction (NPDI), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Mass Production.
- Assure OEE, production cycle time, capacity utilization, throughput requirements are met in the pre‑launch and post‑launch phases.
- Implement world‑class manufacturing industrialization readiness at suppliers through a robust APQP process.
- Monitor and address supplier nonconformance issues by developing robust quality control plans and implementing effective, sustainable corrective actions.
- Drive permanent resolution of supplier issues reported by Vertiv facilities and by Customers.
- Lead and own PPAP requirements associated with new programs or change management.
- Lead problem definition and preventive problem solving through containment, root‑cause identification, and corrective action with Supplier Corrective Action Report (SCAR).
- Develop Root Cause Analysis and supplier reports on reported issues; communicate internally and externally on outcomes of investigations; work with internal teams—including Engineering, Service, Manufacturing/Operations, Sales, Offering Management, and Plants Quality—to resolve quality issues impacting Vertiv facilities and customers.
- Prepare concise verbal and written executive summaries for the Leadership Team.
- Perform supplier on‑site audits to monitor Quality Management System (QMS) compliance and effectiveness.
- Identify areas for quality improvements.
- Visit suppliers to proactively observe installations, document improvement needs, and initiate corrective action.
- Evaluate potential new suppliers by conducting on‑site audits and scoring the Quality Management System.
- Provide monthly reporting and status updates on supplier performance and quality initiatives to management.
- Support the execution and maintenance of an ISO 9001‑certified Quality Management System.
- Other responsibilities may be assigned from time to time as needed, based on the evolution of the company and department requirements.
- At least 5 years of experience in a Supplier Quality Engineer role or related fields.
- 2+ years of welding process and inspection experience.
- Experienced professional leader with proven expertise in fields such as sheet metal & enclosures, Power Switching, Electronics Manufacturing Services, Transformers, Heat Exchangers, Fans & Coils, Compressors, Cables & Wiring, Metal Plumbing and Pipening.
- Experience handling high‑risk, critical projects of significant scope to the company.
- Leader of people, mentoring and coaching others to improve the organization’s technical knowledge.
- High technical expertise, supporting all proactive, preventive and reactive strategies for supplier quality on a regional and global scope.
- Experienced with problem‑solving tools and techniques (8‑D, 5 Whys, SCAR, Fishbone, Pareto, Six Sigma, PPAP).
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks based on priority, difficulty and severity.
- Background in applying statistical tools for process and product development and control (Gage R&R, Process Capability, Control Plans, SPC, Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis).
- 5–10 years of experience in a Supplier Quality Engineer role or related fields.
- Pipe Manufacturing/Process experience.
- Knowledge of commodities such as sheet metal & enclosures, Power Switching, Electronics Manufacturing Services, Transformers, Heat Exchangers, Fans & Coils, Compressors, Cables & Wiring, Metal Plumbing and Pipening.
