Senior Project Manager - Water Services

Job Overview

CDM Smith is looking for an experienced Water Services Project Manager to join our South Carolina team. The role can be based in our Columbia or Greenville, SC office.

• Manage water/wastewater infrastructure design, permitting, and construction services from early concept development through construction.
• Lead project teams and mentor junior staff, coordinating and reviewing project assignments.
• Work effectively with key technical specialists, project team members, and delivery managers.
• Assist with preparation of design drawings and specifications on large, complex, multi‑discipline design projects.
• Prepare, monitor, and manage project budgets and schedules while managing the firm’s risk.
• Provide high‑level planning and program analysis work, including preparation of technical documents and reports.
• Stay active in the water services industry, keeping abreast of emerging technologies, research and development opportunities, and participating in professional societies.
• Assist in new business development by contributing to strategic planning, marketing, and business operations planning.
• Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to client requests for proposals (RFPs).
• Review draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local, and federal regulations and best practices.
• Interface with clients and government officials to clarify technical questions and provide updates to upper management as necessary.

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• 10 years of related experience.
• PMP (PMI), CCM, or DBIA certification required within 12 months of hire or promotion onto the Approved Project Manager list.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• Project management experience on water/wastewater infrastructure design projects in North and/or South Carolina.
• Alternative project delivery experience.

• Experience with project management methodology, including budget development, project planning, control, and assurance methodologies, project management software, and finance and accounting concepts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• In-depth knowledge of project goals, drivers, strategies, risks and opportunities.
• Good interpersonal and presentation skills for interacting with team members and clients.
• Ability to interact with many people and process a large volume of requests as necessary.
• Excellent personal computer skills, especially MS Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.
