Job Responsibilities
Under general supervision of the RCE and ARCE, perform project management and supervisory duties related to the management of roadway construction projects. Responsible for ensuring that all work is performed in compliance with plans and specifications. Monitor roadway construction projects for compliance with plans, specifications, and standards. Notify the Contractor and RCE of deficiencies and verify that those issues are resolved appropriately.
Ensure construction inspection and sampling and testing requirements are met or exceeded by qualified inspectors. Assist the RCE in resolving construction conflicts to keep assigned projects on time and on budget. Ensure work on assigned projects is in accordance with environmental regulations and permits. Ensure work zone safety and traffic control requirements are met, and that construction projects are safe for the Contractor, SCDOT personnel, and the traveling public.
Perform inspection duties on construction projects as a certified CEPSCI and SCDOT inspector, as necessary. Supervise and develop consultant inspectors. Ensure consultant inspectors are well trained and receive technical assistance and guidance as needed. Prepare, maintain, and verify the accuracy of all forms, checklists, and spreadsheets associated with assigned projects. Assist in the preparation of closeout documents, including Final/As-Built Construction plans.
Serve as the Department representative when dealing with contractors, the general public, property owners, and utility company representatives. Perform other related duties as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management. Relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling may be required. Driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards may be encountered. May be required to work outside of the normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
