Job Responsibilities
Assists the State Maintenance Engineer in providing statewide leadership, coordination, and oversight of maintenance engineering programs, maintenance quality initiatives, lifecycle asset management programs, and technical support activities within the Director of Maintenance Office. Provides statewide leadership, coordination, and support on behalf of the State Maintenance Engineer across all maintenance functional areas within the Director of Maintenance Office. Coordinates maintenance performance initiatives, evaluates operational effectiveness, assists with development and implementation of statewide maintenance programs, and serves as a liaison between the State Maintenance Engineer, district maintenance offices, and headquarters functional units.
Provides technical guidance, program oversight, data analysis, and recommendations to support consistent statewide maintenance operations, performance improvement, and achievement of departmental objectives. Manages statewide lifecycle asset management programs including pavement markings, signs, and other assigned maintenance infrastructure programs. Coordinates program planning, project development, performance monitoring, compliance activities, funding recommendations, and implementation strategies. Provides management oversight of the State Sign Shop, including production planning, budget development, statewide coordination, inventory management, specification compliance, quality assurance, and support of statewide sign replacement initiatives.
Coordinates extraordinary maintenance project programming, prioritization, tracking, and funding recommendations. Assists with maintenance investment planning and provides technical recommendations regarding maintenance program funding and resource allocation. Develops, reviews, and implements maintenance-related policies, engineering directives, standards, specifications, guidance documents, and operational procedures. Coordinates with other engineering offices, district personnel, and subject matter experts to ensure consistency and compliance with applicable requirements.
Represents the Director of Maintenance Office on state and national committees, technical working groups, and special initiatives. Provides presentations, recommendations, and technical expertise on statewide maintenance programs and practices. Assists with emergency preparedness, emergency response activities, and special projects as assigned by the State Maintenance Engineer in support of statewide maintenance operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and six (6) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel.
May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
