Job SummaryThis role is mid-level to expert-level in conventional aspects of the engineering series, providing engineering support in a designated company area, or specific engineering discipline. The engineer performs and/or reviews engineering calculations, analysis, research, and design; provides cost analysis as needed and develops recommendations based on calculations (e.g., cost for equipment upgrade for management review). Distinguished from associate engineers by increased complexity in application of engineering skills.
Under the direction of the supervisor or work leader, the engineer exercises independence in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard or well‑defined engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. The engineer uses independent judgment in prioritizing and making moderately complex adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear objectives and require investigation of a limited number of variables.
Responsibilities also include performing other duties as requested or assigned. The engineer may serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO), responding to plant ERO activities within 30‑60 minutes.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceExperience or knowledge in any of the following is desired:
- AC power generation and distribution systems including steam turbine generators, diesel generators, motor control centers, large transformers (1000 kVA to 1232 MVA), motors up to 7000 HP, uninterruptable power supplies, switch gear, and protective device settings. AC systems range from 120 V to 230 kV.
- DC power systems including motor control, batteries, 125 V distribution systems and battery chargers.
- Design of digital control and instrumentation systems.
- Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position.
- Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.
- Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g., Matlab, Excel, etc.).
- Planning, organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
- Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.
- Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.
- Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.
- Nuclear employees:
Must have at least one year of nuclear power experience.
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:
Possess a 4‑year engineering degree from an ABET‑accredited engineering program (based on the year the program was accredited).
Possess a 4‑year engineering degree from an institution outside the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the accrediting body on or after that date.
Possess a 4‑year degree in engineering (non‑ABET accredited), physics, chemistry, math or engineering technology and a post‑graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET‑accredited.
Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
Education RequirementsBachelor’s in Engineering.

Dominion Energy minimum experience and education requirements may exceed stated ANSI standards and candidates must meet the Dominion Energy minimum requirements.
For nuclear employees, the following ANSI standard must be met: ANSI/ANS‑3.1‑2014, Section 4.6.1 – Baccalaureate or associate degree in engineering or related science.
