Process Engineer Coating Line
The objective of this position is to deliver technical process engineering assistance for the new Fiberglass Coating Line located Chester, South Carolina. The primary initial responsibility of this role is to spearhead the operational readiness plan for process engineering, ensuring that the facility is adequately prepared for a successful launch. Following the start-up, this position will transition to a technical support role responsible for optimizing cost, quality, productivity, and reliability.
This will involve leading teams of hourly workers and staff in continuous improvement initiatives to achieve and maintain results in waste reduction, variation minimization, and equipment reliability.
As a key member of the startup and continued operations team, this individual will hold the responsibility for:
- Establishing standard operating procedures and ensuring that both operators and supervisors are actively engaged and trained to consistently manage plant operations.
- Overseeing the commissioning of new production machinery and processes, while also monitoring modifications, upgrades, and troubleshooting of existing operations.
- Creating layered process audits, control and response protocols, and standard operating procedures for all operational processes.
- Collaborating closely with the Production Manager to assess and enhance the efficiency, output, and safety of the facility.
- Identifying and addressing process issues through both individual and team-oriented continuous improvement initiatives and systematic problem-solving techniques.
- Conducting direct observations and measurements, as well as gathering and analyzing data from other technical and operational personnel involved, to formulate and execute process enhancements.
- Measuring, testing, and evaluating product attributes.
- Overseeing process modifications from initial concept to the successful production of the final product.
- Collaborating closely with operators and staff responsible for quality control of raw materials, finished goods, plant maintenance, product specifications, and production timelines.
- Proactively identifying root causes and suggesting suitable corrective measures.
- Offering technical guidance for environmental monitoring and the continuous performance of plant environmental controls and processes.
Basic job qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
- 3-5 years of practical experience in process engineering within a manufacturing setting, ideally in a coating process, wet formed fiberglass mat process, or a comparable field.
- Additional backgrounds or proven experiences that may suggest a suitable candidate encompass roles such as quality manager, quality engineer, and substantial technical expertise in similar processes, including paper manufacturing or other coating techniques.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong detailed oriented technical writing skills.
- Lean six sigma skills and experience preferred.
- Knowledge of SPC (statistical process control).
- Advanced analytical skills, and creativity in solving problems/troubleshooting.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple short and long-term projects, while supporting the daily operations.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities (including written, verbal, and presentation skills), demonstrating the capacity to collaborate effectively with others in a team setting.
