A. O. Smith is seeking a Welding Engineer to support manufacturing of residential and commercial water heating and treatment products. In this on-site role, you will design, develop, and optimize welding processes for tanks, components, and assemblies to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency. You will create and maintain weld procedures, lead trials and qualifications, and analyze weld issues using structured problem-solving.
Partnering closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams, you will support new product introductions, automation projects, and continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize welding processes for water heaters and related products
- Create and maintain welding procedures, work instructions, and process documentation
- Lead welding process validation, trials, and qualification of new materials and methods
- Analyze weld quality issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
- Collaborate with product design, manufacturing, and quality teams on new product introductions
- Specify and support selection, installation, and maintenance of welding equipment and tooling
- Develop and implement weld inspection and testing standards to ensure safety and compliance
- Train production staff and technicians on welding best practices and safety requirements
- Support continuous improvement, cost reduction, and automation initiatives in welding operations
- Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and internal quality systems
