Mechanical Design Engineer – New Product Development

Location: Wellford, SC

Schedule: Monday–Friday | On-Site

Position Type: Full-Time

About the Opportunity

Our client, an established manufacturer of specialized tools and equipment, is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a newly formed product development group.

This is a strong opportunity for an early-career mechanical engineer who wants hands-on involvement throughout the full product-development process. You’ll help take new products and machines from initial concept through design, analysis, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and release.

The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, experience with 3D CAD, and an understanding of how manufactured products are designed and built. Hands-on manufacturing, internship, co-op, or project experience is highly valued.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and engineer new products and machines for manufacturing
  • Create and refine 3D models, assemblies, drawings, and design documentation
  • Analyze designs for strength, function, manufacturability, lifespan, and overall performance
  • Perform engineering calculations involving areas such as strength, fatigue, gears, and chain drives
  • Support prototype fabrication, assembly, testing, and design validation
  • Work with manufacturing personnel to ensure designs can be produced efficiently and accurately
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during development and following product launch
  • Help coordinate field-testing units and collect feedback from customers
  • Assist sales personnel with product-related technical questions
  • Support the development of technical manuals and product documentation
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficiency with Solid Works or similar 3D CAD and solid-modeling software
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering analysis and design calculations
  • Knowledge of common manufacturing methods such as welding, sheet-metal fabrication, machining, casting, assembly, and coatings
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage assigned projects with limited supervision
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience involving product or machine design
  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, machining, or assembly environment
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Draft Sight, or other 2D CAD software
  • Basic electrical engineering knowledge
  • Experience building, testing, troubleshooting, or improving mechanical products

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing engineering group and contribute directly to the development of practical products used in demanding real-world applications.
