Job Summary
The position will direct and lead accounting and financial analysis and reporting for the Controller’s Office. It involves developing and maintaining reports the University needs for operations, administering the reporting system, working with a reporting business analyst to develop new reports, providing oversight of the University’s chart of accounts, maintaining the ERP accounting structure that the reports are based on, and leading process improvements through the development of reporting tools for all areas of the Controller’s Office.
Responsibilities- Manages and directs the development of reports and queries that support University departments in their daily operations. Oversees administration of the reporting system and supervises the Reporting Analyst position, providing strategic guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise to report writers, and ensuring all reports are validated for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with University policies.
- Directs the development of reports and queries that support the daily operations of all areas within the Controller’s Office. Provides professional direction and advanced technical expertise to report writers, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and effective use of reporting tools, queries, and Excel-based analysis across the office.
- Provides leadership in maintaining and managing the University’s chart of accounts, ensuring integrity and consistency in the accounting structure. Advises departments on appropriate account usage and evaluates requests for new accounts. Oversees the sub-ledgers, and ensures compliance with policies in collaboration with the Compliance Team, recommending updates as needed.
- Oversees the management, development, and dissemination of University funds reports, ensuring departments have timely and accurate information for decision-making. Provides oversight of fund activity to confirm compliance with spending limits, appropriate use of funds, and timely reconciliation in accordance with University policies.
- Directs and provides leadership in supporting all Controller’s Office areas with professional and technical expertise, advancing process improvements through enhanced reporting, electronic forms, and advanced queries. Collaborates with all unit leaders to assess operational needs, set priorities, and guide the development of solutions that strengthen efficiency and effectiveness across the office.
- Provides leadership and coordination in collaborative projects and annual reporting in support of the Controller and Assistant Controller, ensuring the needs of internal and external stakeholders—including Research, Budget Office, Bursar’s Office, Facilities, Financial Aid, campuses, and departments—are met with accuracy and efficiency.
- Oversees the design and delivery of training for report writers on the University’s reporting software, establishing standards and resources to support both onboarding and ongoing development. Provides leadership in planning, developing, and implementing training initiatives.
- Reviews, analyzes and evaluates existing policies, programs, plans, systems, operations, procedures and documents to develop improvements in efficiency, effectiveness and productivity; assists in developing program performance standards.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job‑related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job‑related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications- CPA of CGFO preferred.
- People Soft or other ERP Experience preferred.
- Higher Education experience preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles for higher education.
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal statutes and regulations pertaining to higher education financial management and ability to analyze and interpret them.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of university, state, federal and other external personnel.
