The Senior Accountant – Accounting Services manages complex financial accounting in the Controller’s Office. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining accounting records, verifying and documenting financial transactions, preparing monthly and annual reports, conducting reconciliations, and supporting reporting functions for the annual financial statements. The role also leads Financial Aid accounting, ensures compliance, manages State Financial Aid reporting, and assists with certain Treasury functions.

Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3 or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
- CPA or CGFO certification.
- Experience with People Soft or other ERP systems.
- Higher education and audit experience.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP for higher education.
- Thorough understanding of state and federal statutes and regulations related to higher education financial management.
- Effective communication with university, state, federal, and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of accounting, capital financing, debt management, tax, banking, budgeting, financial management, and investment principles.
- Knowledge of state government fiscal accounting processes.
- Proficiency in financial statement analysis and interpretation of complex financial data.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate clearly.
- Manage Agency Funds (‘Z’ Funds) accounting, ensuring timely billing and collection. Prepare entries for NAC monthly rents and utilities. Coordinate with agency fund personnel for efficient account management.
- Direct University State Financial Aid accounting and lotteries, ensuring coordination with Financial Aid offices, timely invoicing, and compliance with policies. Develop policies for monthly review and reconciliation.
- Oversee daily banking and treasury functions, including positive pay, payment manager, ACH fraud prevention, wire transfers, and bank transfers.
- Assist with Treasury functions, petty cash control, card program support, endowment account setup, interest journal entries, and compliance reviews.
- Process moving and relocation agreements and reimbursements, ensuring alignment with university policies.
- Evaluate and improve existing policies, programs, and procedures, developing performance standards and SOPs.
