General Responsibility

Ensure timely, accurate and complete information in the SLED Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Sex Offender Registry database to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the computerized files and assure SLED CJIS complies with federal and state laws.

Specific Duties
  • Review, research and verify individual records, updating any additional information required by state and federal laws or policies, to facilitate quality control of Sex Offender Registry (SOR) records.
  • Communicate with the Sex Offender Contacts at the County Sheriff s Departments regarding any discrepancies in information to ensure accuracy and completeness of the files.
  • Review sex offender removal applications and conduct research to ensure the necessary documents and information is available to enable processing.
    • Receive removal applications and ensure that all documents are provided and accurate.
    • Conduct criminal history checks.
    • Create and submit requests to various criminal justice agencies for crime reports, case dispositions, and other registry documents.
    • Provide detailed findings to the appropriate Solicitor s office for decision-making.
    • Compose decision letters and ensure they are mailed to the applicant within applicable time frames.
  • Provide assistance to authorized SORT program users and other SCSOR registering personnel. Handle incoming SLED SOR mail, emails, phone calls, and document inquiries in accordance with SLED SOR policies and procedures.
  • For select counties, transcribe sex offender information in SORT to the National Sex Offender Registry through NCIC.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma and related work experience. A bachelor s degree may be substituted for relevant work experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Ability to present ideas clearly, both orally and written.
  • Ability to interpret reference manuals, computer printouts and error listings.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy when working with users to resolve discrepancies in information.
  • Must possess excellent communication and management skills.
  • Candidate must become NCIC certified within six (6) months of hire and recertify every two years.
  • Work is performed in an office setting during standard business hours, Monday through Friday.
  • May require out-of-town travel to fulfill job responsibilities or attend training sessions, which may occasionally require overnight stays.
  • Knowledge and work experience of state and federal laws regulating the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry (SOR), the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and the International Justice & Public Safety Network system, or the ability to learn and master the programs is preferred.
  • Experience working with the Sex Offender Registry Tool (SORT) or prior experience with data entry skills or software is preferred.

This is a temporary grant, full-time position that offers insurance and leave benefits.
