Location: Columbia

Job Responsibilities

In this role you will provide investigative and analytical support related to the enforcement of criminal tax statutes and other financial crimes to encourage voluntary compliance by taxpayers under South Carolina's tax laws.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct ongoing research to identify new information or sources
  • Analyze records and evidence including financial statements, bank records, general ledgers, invoices, and tax returns
  • Maintain official case files throughout investigations
  • Collect information obtained from electronic databases, public records, and financial institutions involved in investigations
  • Provide spreadsheets and analytical reports summarizing information surrounding investigations
  • Investigate complaints, inquiries, or violations of South Carolina laws or regulations
  • Conduct inspections or surveillances of businesses and individuals
  • Coordinate, plan, and assist with witness interviews and affidavits
  • Serve as a witness or corroborator of interviews
  • Assist in the preparation for trials by reviewing witness testimony, analyzing evidence, and coordinating witnesses
Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • A high school diploma and experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties
  • A bachelor's degree (must be from an accredited institution of higher learning)
Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver's license
  • Required to attend and complete the CLASS 3 basic law enforcement certification program at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy
  • Travel as needed; minimal overnight travel required
Preferred Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties
  • An associate's degree and four years of experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties
  • A high school diploma and six years of experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties

Work Hours & Telework

Hours:

8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).

Telework schedule:
Eligible to work remotely up to two days per week after one year of employment.

Office location:
Depending on space availability, employees may choose work location among Columbia, Charleston, Florence, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, or Rock Hill.
