THIS IS AN INTERNAL POSTING FOR CURRENT STP OFFICERS ONLY.
Serves as the STP Duty Officer responding to general questions and inquiries from the public in a professional and timely manner. Receives and compiles information for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. Serves as the Administrative Uniform Officer for STP Headquarters in the absence of Command Staff, ensuring continuity of operations.
Serves as the STP Duty Officer, responding to general questions and inquiries from the public in a professional and timely manner. Supervises and provides guidance to the STP receptionist ensuring high-quality customer service and adherence to procedures.
Receives, reviews, and compiles information for FOIA requests in accordance with established policies and legal guidelines.
Assists in preparing official correspondence and administrative documentation for various sections within STP. Reviews and proofs work schedules for accuracy and completeness prior to distribution. Receives and monitors traffic complaints called into STP headquarters.
Oversees the processing of the STP contractor request documentation for all oversize/overweight escorts. Manages and coordinates the scheduling of oversized/overweight escorts with the regional commanders. Responsible for management and review of all oversize/overweight documentation and reports submitted by STP regional personnel for completeness and accuracy.
Knowledgeable in all motor vehicle laws and North America Standard Inspection Procedures. Accurately cites violators, prepares cases, and successfully prosecutes them in court. Successfully completes all required levels of inspections for recertification.
Successfully completes all required in-service training for recertification and maintains all applicable state and federal law enforcement certifications, as required. Performs other duties as required.
StateMinimum Requirements -
A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency.
Agency Requirements- Must have a high school diploma.
- Must be certified by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
- Must have a minimum of five years of experience as a State Transport Police Officer.
- Must have attained permanent status in the rank of State Transport Police Corporal for at least six (6) continuous months.
- Must attend in-service training held by the department as well as any local and/or out of state managerial/supervisory courses deemed necessary for the position.
- Must have the ability to lead and firmly but courteously deal with the public and subordinates.
- Must be able to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
- Must have thorough knowledge of state, federal motor carrier, and traffic laws.
- Must have proficient administrative ability and knowledge of State Transport Police methods and procedures; must have the ability to plan, organize, assign, direct, and evaluate overall operations of assigned unit.
