Responsibilities
  • Provide infection prevention and control education, guidance and recommendations to healthcare and select non‑healthcare facilities and regional DPH staff. Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure proper infection control practices are followed, report infectious diseases, analyze situations, make informed evidence‑based decisions, and assist facilities with building their IP program including risk assessment and antibiotic stewardship.
  • Plan, develop, and perform activities of the CDC’s Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR); utilize the CDC’s tools to assess IPC practices in dialysis settings and other identified healthcare facilities. Coordinate and conduct on‑site IPC visits, maintain written/electronic reports with tailored recommendations, and collect data to support IPC activities and grant performance measures.
  • Investigate and assess infection control practices and assist with colonization screenings for MDRO containment and response. Conduct proactive point prevalence surveys, participate in outbreak planning and response (including pandemic preparedness), conduct outbreak investigations, contact tracing, isolation, and control measures, support immunization campaigns, and perform risk assessments and mitigation.
  • Develop and present infection prevention training and compliance with best practices in collaboration with the CO HAI team for healthcare and select non‑healthcare providers and regional DPH staff.
  • Assist with Medical Needs Shelter (MNS) operations; maintain supportive nursing practice competencies (injection administration, medication administration, first aid, CPR, AED), and be available for public health emergency and outbreak response efforts. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • State Minimum:
    Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Additional Agency Requirements:
    Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with an Associate’s and/or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and related nursing experience; current active RN license in South Carolina; four years of RN experience, including one year in an acute care nursing specialty or in infectious disease; experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • DPH employees must participate in disaster preparedness and may be required to work 24‑hour duty and/or call. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required. Position may require early, evening, or Saturday work. Ability to lift 30 pounds and stand for long periods.
Immunization Requirements

All new employees who are healthcare providers with job‑specific exposure risk must document immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, varicella, and Hepatitis B prior to employment.

Education Requirements

Current nursing students or recent graduates who will obtain all credentials within six months are encouraged to apply.
