Responsibilities

Under limited supervision, performs complex and varied laboratory procedures for the isolation and identification of bacteria in clinical samples/isolates. Sets up all samples received in the unit as well as orders correct test in Laboratory Information System (LIS). Provides consultative services for senders and epidemiologists.

Test all colonization screenings using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and culture to include:
Group A Strep (GAS) and Carbapenem Producing Organisms (CPO).

Independently set up all cultures/isolates received in the unit.

Work with Non-Enteric/Hospital Acquired Infections-Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory Network (HAI ARLN) bench to run various tests in identification, culture, PCR and susceptibility testing to include:
Vitek MAST Analyze (MS) Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization-Time-Of-Flight (maldi-TOF), Cepheid Genexpert, Modified Carbapenemase Inactivation Method (mCIM) and antibiotic susceptibility testing using disk diffusion.

Record and maintain inventory to include quality control.

Independently work on Non-Enteric/Hospital Acquired Infections-Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory Network (HAI ARLN) bench to include but not limited to:
Haemophilus, Neisseria, Vibrio, and Streptococcus.

State

Minimum Requirements

A bachelor's degree in a related medical or scientific discipline; or an associate degree or equivalent training in a related medical, scientific or technical discipline and journey-level work experience in a related field. Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
