PRN, up to 24 hours per week during fall and spring semesters
Medical Laboratory Technologist.
Performs waived and moderately complex testing and analysis in accordance with established protocols, regulatory standards, and good laboratory practices. Ensures accurate and timely reporting of results to support quality patient care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs Laboratory Tests and Procedures- Performs hematology, urinalysis, serology, microbiology and chemistry according to written protocols and good laboratory practices.
- Operates, maintains, and performs routine troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, including microscopes, hematology analyzers, centrifuges, and related instrumentation.
- Accurately documents and communicates test results to medical staff. Provides additional information regarding testing and results as appropriate or upon request.
- Receiving and interpreting laboratory orders, coding, and order entry of outside physician requests.
- Possesses a working knowledge of ICD and CPT codes, and familiarity with electronic ordering and management systems (EMR, LIS, LABCORP LINK, etc.).
- Performs Quality Improvement procedures to include quality control, proficiency testing, and continuing education according to written policies and procedures.
Including proper patient preparation and identification, knowledge of appropriate specimen requirements, labeling, and specimen handling including transport and storage. Will be required to perform venipuncture.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience, or Associate’s degree and three years of related experience. Must be certified through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (MT-ASCP, MLS-ASCP, or MLT-ASCP) or the equivalent.
