Position: Medical Technologist I
Location: James Island

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a Medical Technologist I to join our Laboratory Services team within our leading academic health center. In this entry-level role, you will perform routine and specialized diagnostic tests, ensuring accurate, timely results that support high-quality patient care, research, and medical education. Responsibilities include specimen processing, instrument operation and maintenance, quality control, and compliance with CLIA and CAP standards.

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in an inclusive, innovative environment that fosters professional growth and engagement in cutting‑edge healthcare and biomedical research.

  • Perform routine and specialized diagnostic tests across core laboratory disciplines following standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure accurate, timely analysis and reporting of patient results, including verification, validation, and critical value notification.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments; troubleshoot issues and participate in equipment validation.
  • Adhere to CLIA, CAP, and hospital regulations, including quality control, proficiency testing, and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and lab staff to support patient care and provide technical guidance as needed.
  • Participate in training, competency assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives within Laboratory Services.
  • Contribute to research and educational activities consistent with MUSC's academic and innovation-focused mission.
  • Clinical laboratory testing (hematology, chemistry, microbiology, transfusion, or related area)
  • Operation and maintenance of automated analyzers
  • Specimen collection, processing, and handling
  • Quality control and quality assurance procedures
  • Laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic health records (EHR)
  • CLIA/CAP/JCAHO regulatory compliance
  • Phlebotomy and sample integrity management
  • Infection prevention and biosafety practices
  • Data analysis and interpretation of lab results
  • Documentation and reporting of critical values
