The Emergency Department Tech has C.N.A. or EMT certification. Conveniently located in Orangeburg, SC at a Level III Trauma Emergency Department! The Emergency Department Technician reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Emergency Department Technician II performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.

May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases and the risk of blood borne diseases. Contact with patient. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to unpleasant elements (accident injuries and illness). Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Must be able to handle emergency or crisis situations. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

Essential Functions:- Takes vital signs, height and weight.
- Performs EKG's.
- Assist physicians or nurses on all procedures.
- Monitors telemetry patients.
- Collects various specimens in the appropriate manner.
- Crutch training
- Assist with ordering supplies.
- May perform Bladder Scans and insert Foley Catheters.
- Transport Patients.
Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk and hear.
Must be able to lift or exert energy up to 10 pounds 25 % of the time. Up to 25 pounds 25% of the time. Up to 100 pounds 50% of the time.
Must have close vision.
Mental Requirements:Must possess the ability to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical or technical procedures or regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence and/or manuals. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees, and medical staff. No or limited mathematical skills required. Must possess the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Must possess the ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables and standardized situations.
Competencies:
This position primarily interacts with all age groups and provides direct patient care. All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.
Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma. Certification required as an EMT or CNA. Phlebotomy certification is required for ED tech II. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. Some experience in a medical setting is preferred.
