Physical Therapist Assistant​/PTA​/

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a full-time Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to support rehabilitation services in our leading academic health center. The PTA will deliver hands-on patient care under the direction of a licensed PT, implementing evidence-based treatment plans, therapeutic exercises, and mobility training to improve function and quality of life. Responsibilities include documenting progress in the EMR, educating patients and families, maintaining safety and infection control, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.

• Provide direct patient care under supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT) following established treatment plans
• Assist with therapeutic exercises, gait training, balance and functional mobility activities
• Measure and document patient progress, vital signs, and treatment responses in the EMR system
• Educate patients and families on home exercise programs, safety, and rehabilitation goals
• Prepare and maintain treatment areas, equipment, and infection control standards
• Collaborate with PTs, nurses, and the interdisciplinary care team to coordinate care
• Support discharge planning by providing input on patient functional status and equipment needs
• Adhere to MUSC and regulatory policies, including HIPAA and patient safety standards
• Participate in quality improvement, in-service training, and continuing education
• Contribute to a culture of compassion, inclusion, and evidence-based practice
• Therapeutic exercise implementation
• Gait and balance training
• Patient transfer and mobility techniques
• Use of physical therapy modalities (e.g., heat, cold, electrical stimulation) per PT direction
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation
• Vital sign monitoring and basic patient assessment

• Current South Carolina PTA license or eligibility
• Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Experience in acute care or outpatient rehab preferred
