Position

Summary

The Front Desk Clerk plays a critical role in creating a positive patient experience by providing exceptional customer service and ensuring efficient front office operations. This position is responsible for patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, payment collection, data entry, and maintaining accurate patient records while supporting providers and clinical staff in delivering quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Register new patients and update existing patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Collect co-pays, self-pay balances, and other payments while maintaining accurate records.
  • Balance and reconcile daily cash drawers and payment transactions.
  • Assist patients with registration forms and required documentation.
  • Maintain accurate patient records within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Process patient requests and direct inquiries to appropriate departments when necessary.
  • Coordinate referrals, diagnostic appointments, and follow-up visits as instructed.
  • Scan, file, and maintain medical and administrative records in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Communicate appointment delays, scheduling updates, and patient information to providers and clinical staff.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable regulations.
  • Provide support across check-in, check-out, and financial counseling functions as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training programs, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional administrative duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum one year of customer service, administrative, or front office experience.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred
  • Previous medical office, healthcare, or FQHC experience.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, and patient registration processes.
