Position Purpose

Responsible for the day‑to‑day activities and assignments of Computer Operations staff (assigned shifts), and the follow‑up of their work performance. Responsible for day‑to‑day operations, ensuring scheduled work is completed on time, as well as accounting for unscheduled production and maintenance. Works closely, and in coordination with, other operators to ensure proper knowledge and task turnover takes place between shifts. Identifies and resolves computer system problems.

Location

This is a full‑time and onsite position with Companion Data Services, a subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina, located in Columbia, SC.

What You’ll Do
  • Train, motivate, and guide assigned staff; assign, review, and approve the work of assigned staff; provide input to management regarding staff performance.
  • Manage the daily activities to resolve problems and change‑management issues; provide advice/guidance to lower‑level operators on the resolution of complex scheduling conflicts, computer malfunctions, program/system malfunctions and other irregularities.
  • Operate and monitor computer systems and related equipment, ensuring all batch cycles are completed by deadline; read production schedules, job request forms and job documentation to determine what jobs to run, what procedures to follow and what input data to obtain; be responsible for production systems’ online response time.
  • Identify/monitor and diagnose system problems, initiate corrective action where possible; monitor system for possible hardware or software problems; troubleshoot and provide advice on data center equipment problems.
  • Compile and maintain reports relative to computer operations as required; review equipment logs and report on equipment efficiency.
  • Work with IT groups to ensure service objectives are met; review technical support process and products and recommend quality improvements; review all changes scheduled for the shift window and provide orderly transition of new or revised work to the succeeding shift as appropriate.
To Qualify for This Position, You’ll Need the Following Required Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Work Experience
  • 5 years’ experience in the operation and support of a variety of computer systems.
Skills and Abilities
  • Maintains tape libraries
  • Monitors computing platforms
  • Notifies customers of problems
  • Operates console systems
  • Troubleshoots computing platforms
We Prefer That You Have the Following
  • Mainframe experience including System Monitoring, IPL, and understanding of Errors and Abends.
  • Experience with Splunk.
  • Service Now Experience.
