Digital Accessibility Director
With the vision of supporting the values and mission of the Office of Civil Rights & Title IX, the Senior Specialist of Digital Accessibility promotes an inclusive and accessible digital university environment at the University of South Carolina. Reporting to the Deputy ADA Coordinator, the role provides strategic leadership for the university’s digital accessibility efforts, developing institutional standards, policies, and initiatives, and overseeing and coordinating university-wide efforts to promote and maintain accessible digital content and technology.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 4 years of job‑related experience (or an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and experience).
- Master’s, J.D., or Doctorate in a related field or related certification through a nationally recognized organization.
- Experience in higher‑education ADA digital accessibility compliance and familiarity with digital accessibility principles and tools (WCAG, assistive technologies, and web practices).
- Direct experience and proven success with digital accessibility strategy and remediation.
- Experience using reports from automated testing platforms and translating findings into remediation best practices.
- Intermediate ability to use accessible technology for testing best practices.
- Direct involvement in large‑scale accessibility remediations and strategic planning initiatives.
- Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress.
- Demonstrated collaboration with campus and university partners.
- Ability to interpret federal, state, and local equal opportunity and nondiscrimination laws and regulations, including Title VII, the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related statutes.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Experience collaborating across departments and job levels, reviewing work, and providing feedback to high‑level stakeholders.
Leads institutional efforts to promote accessible digital content, provides expert technical guidance, reviews digital content, collaborates with stakeholders to resolve accessibility concerns, and serves as the primary liaison with college units, the disability community, state and federal agencies, and other accessibility experts.

Compliance, Policy, and Strategic PlanningMaintains current knowledge of evolving regulations and standards, oversees institutional priorities for digital accessibility compliance, coordinates policy development and strategic planning, and informs university leadership on risks and opportunities.
Percentage of Time: 20%
Education and Training LeadershipLeads university‑wide training and awareness initiatives related to digital accessibility, partners with relevant offices to deliver training, and promotes understanding of accessibility standards.
Percentage of Time: 20%
Complaint Resolution, Response, and Remediation CoordinationCoordinates processes to resolve accessibility complaints, collaborates with university offices to address barriers, ensures documentation and reporting, and supports remediation strategies.
Percentage of Time: 20%
Assessment, Reporting, and Continuous ImprovementOversees evaluation and continuous improvement of digital accessibility efforts, develops reporting mechanisms, monitors progress, and recommends actions to leadership.
Percentage of Time: 10%
Other DutiesAccepts and performs other duties as assigned.
