Senior Network Engineer
Spend your days designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise wireless and wired network infrastructure across the University of South Carolina. As a technical expert in wireless networking, you will ensure high availability, performance, and security while supporting academic, research, and administrative operations.
Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, and manage secure, high-performance wireless, LAN, and WAN network infrastructure, including RF design, site surveys, capacity planning, and automation platforms.
- Develop and maintain network automation and orchestration solutions using Python, Ansible, APIs, and Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks.
- Design and manage metrics, telemetry, monitoring, and performance optimization solutions, including dashboards and KPIs.
- Provide Tier 3 support for complex network and security issues, including troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and collaboration with internal teams and vendors.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation and automation workflows.
- Implement and maintain automation for network security functions such as firewall policy updates, access control validation, and vulnerability scanning.
- Perform root‑cause analysis and develop corrective actions for critical incidents and network performance issues.
- Provide infrastructure design and implementation support for wireless, LAN, and WAN environments.
- Maintain documentation of network designs, configurations, automation workflows, and performance metrics.
- Offer mentorship to Tier 1 and Tier 2 staff and support professional development training.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 4 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience. - Required experience:
5 years supporting enterprise wireless and wired network infrastructure in a higher‑education or large‑campus environment; expertise in routing, switching, wireless, firewalling, 802.1X, RADIUS, NAC, automation, monitoring, metrics, telemetry, and security architectures. - Hands‑on experience with tools and platforms such as Aruba, Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Clear Pass, Libre
NMS, Grafana, Netbox, Ansible, Python, Ekahau, Air Magnet. - Professional certifications:
Cisco CCNP Enterprise/CCNA, Aruba ACMP/ACSP, Juniper JNCIS/JNCIP, CWNA/CWNP, Fortinet NSE4/NSE
5. - Experience with Aruba networking, Juniper access layer, wireless controllers, RF design tools, 802.1X, RADIUS, NAC, Clear Pass, automation (Python, Ansible, APIs), monitoring (Libre
NMS, Grafana, Net Box), Fortinet security architecture, and multi‑site deployments. - Skill in designing and deploying enterprise environments, troubleshooting complex issues, performing root‑cause analysis, automating configuration tasks, analysing performance data, maintaining documentation, mentoring, and communicating with stakeholders.
