Consultant – Information Security
• NIST 800-53
• POA&M / CAP – Remote (Columbia, SC)
We are seeking an experienced Information Security Consultant to support DIS's statewide information security program. This 12‑month contract role is 100% remote with occasional on‑site visits.
Scope and Responsibilities- Support agencies in developing and implementing information security programs, providing direct tactical assistance.
- Develop and track agency information security implementation plans.
- Conduct interviews with administrators, managers, and third parties to aid in development of program artifacts.
- Ensure high‑level assessments of agencies' infosec work to monitor progress.
- Provide high‑level analysis of processes and procedures to ensure compliance with state standards.
- Interview business and technical owners to determine agency policies and procedures.
- Document information gathered during interviews and document reviews to assist with formal process and procedure development.
- Assess agency documentation to ensure adequate compliance with controls.
- 10+ years of experience in Information Security and Compliance.
- 2+ years of experience with security audits based on a standard control set as an auditor or Responding Information System Security Officer.
- Strong working knowledge of NIST 800-53 (at least 2 years).
- Prior experience with POA&M or CAP.
- Excellent communication skills.
- 3+ years of experience using a GRC tool such as Archer or a similar platform.
- Completion of an information security plan or System Security Plan (SSP) notebook.
- Ability to manage multiple infosec work efforts simultaneously.
- Knowledge of IRS 1075, HIPAA, CJIS, MARS‑E, and/or PCI‑DSS.
- Government sector experience.
- Ability to identify, map, and re‑engineer business processes.
- Strong schedule management and resource planning skills.
- Capacity to work at a high volume and fast pace.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- CISA, GSLC, or equivalent certification.
