Position Overview
The CICS team is a core part of our Mainframe Services organization, responsible for delivering and supporting the transaction processing backbone of our enterprise systems. The team manages the full lifecycle of CICS environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability for mission‑critical business applications.
Responsibilities- Diagnose, isolate, and debug software problems and perform problem resolution.
- Identify vendor‑responsible issues and refer them appropriately.
- Review and design system software and hardware builds, analyzing options and their impact on the overall systems infrastructure.
- Develop and document frameworks for integration and implementation of changes to technical standards.
- Coordinate installation, testing, and maintenance of systems software.
- Schedule system downtime to minimize user impact.
- Review customer requests, security patches, and audit requirements; evaluate feasibility and determine how to handle them while maintaining appropriate infrastructure.
- Review system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations to determine feasibility of requested changes.
- Provide technical guidance to project teams as appropriate.
- Evaluate vendor‑supplied software packages and make recommendations to IT management.
- Provide input on proposals that could impact systems in coordination with project leads and senior staff.
- Assist in the establishment and implementation of standards and guidelines that guide technology solutions across the enterprise.
- Provide technical and disaster‑recovery support for systems software.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent education and experience: Associate’s + 10 years total, or 12 years total).
- Minimum 8 years of IT experience with extensive systems‑programming experience.
- Strong analytical and logical thinking skills.
- Thorough understanding of operating systems and foundational architecture.
- Extensive knowledge of systems programming, graphical user interface design, control languages, development, quality assurance, and integration methodologies.
- Advanced knowledge of programming productivity tools and their use.
- Advanced knowledge of analyzing system software and making performance‑enhancement recommendations.
- Daily support and upkeep of the Mainframe CICS Environment and supporting products.
- Experience with IBM utilities and vendor tool support for real‑time business functions.
- Knowledge of CICS/TS internals and operations.
- Hands‑on experience with z/OS versions/releases and products such as CICS, CPSM, CICS Explorer, SMF, JCL, SMPE, TSO, SDSF, RACF, SVC dumps, MQ, CA Sysview, TCP/IP, CAFC, IPCS, DB2, IMS, VSAM.
- Experience with Mainframe disaster‑recovery and data‑center rotations.
- Proficiency in JCL and various vendor utilities.
- Debugging experience with COBOL, Assembler, and CICS API programming.
