Technical Project Manager – Data Archiving & Migration
We are looking for an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead a key Data Archiving workstream within a large-scale transformation programme. The successful candidate will oversee the assessment of a legacy data estate, define the scope for a strategic archiving solution, and lead its delivery in collaboration with internal data engineering teams, business stakeholders, and third-party suppliers.
The role will also provide technical project management support to a major data migration workstream, coordinating the ancillary technical activities required to ensure successful migration across surrounding systems and downstream data flows.
This is a senior role suited to a candidate with approximately 5–6 years of experience in technical project management, ideally with a background in data delivery, data migration, data archiving, or large-scale transformation programmes.
Key Responsibilities
Data Archiving
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of the Data Archiving workstream, managing a small team of Business Analysts.
- Oversee the assessment of the organisation's legacy data estate and define the scope and requirements for a strategic archive solution.
- Coordinate with internal Data Engineering teams and third-party suppliers to obtain archive data copies and ensure successful ingestion into the strategic archive.
- Manage the delivery of required business user access to archived data.
- Coordinate project dependencies, risks, issues, milestones, and delivery plans across multiple technical teams.
- Support the development and securing of the business case and funding for the archiving initiative.
- Provide clear project updates and recommendations to senior stakeholders and steering committees.
Data Migration Support
- Support a large-scale data transformation and migration workstream, coordinating technical activities required to support the migration.
- Coordinate secondary data loads into surrounding systems and manage downstream data cascades and dependencies.
- Work closely with multiple technical delivery teams and third-party suppliers to align migration activities and timelines.
- Coordinate technical teams' involvement in migration testing, rehearsals, and delivery activities.
- Identify and manage technical dependencies, risks, and issues that could impact migration delivery.
- Ensure effective communication and alignment across technical, business, and supplier stakeholders.
Key Skills & Experience
- 5–6 years of experience in Technical Project Management or a similar delivery-focused role.
- Proven experience delivering data-related projects or programmes.
- Strong understanding of data migration, data archiving, data delivery, or data transformation initiatives.
- Experience coordinating multiple technical teams and third-party suppliers.
- Experience working with Data Engineering teams and understanding technical data delivery processes.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders and steering committees.
- Experience managing project risks, dependencies, issues, timelines, and delivery milestones.
- Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple work streams and competing priorities.
- Experience supporting business cases, funding discussions, and strategic project decisions.
- Comfortable working in complex transformation environments with multiple technical dependencies.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience delivering data archiving solutions.
- Experience working on large-scale data migrations or transformation programmes.
- Experience with in financial services, wealth management, banking, or another highly regulated environment.
- Experience coordinating migration testing, rehearsals, and downstream system activities.
- Familiarity with enterprise data platforms and strategic archive solutions.
