The mission of the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) is to serve students, support teachers, empower parents, and engage the community so that every student graduates prepared to reach their full potential.

About This Role

The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) is seeking a Work Management Business Analyst to join the Office of Implementation and Support (OIS) within the Information Technology Division. This is a full-time, permanent state position responsible for driving Asana platform governance, workflow design, process analysis, and adoption across the agency.

SCDE uses Asana as its central work management platform to coordinate projects, track cross-functional initiatives, manage IT service requests, and provide leadership with real-time visibility into program delivery. The Work Management Business Analyst is a strategic, mid-level contributor who serves as the agency's internal Asana expert — translating operational needs into structured workflows, building reporting infrastructure for agency leaders, and enabling SCDE's program offices to manage work with greater consistency, accountability, and efficiency.

This role sits at the intersection of business process consulting, project management, and enterprise platform administration — making it ideal for candidates with experience in public sector IT, government operations, or workflow management consulting who are passionate about using technology to improve how government agencies deliver services.

Primary Responsibilities Asana Platform Governance & Administration
  • Own and maintain SCDE's Asana workspace governance: naming conventions, project templates, custom fields, team structures, and user access controls.
  • Serve as the agency's primary Asana subject matter expert; field internal questions, troubleshoot issues, and ensure platform consistency across divisions.
  • Lead ongoing Asana workspace audits to assess project health, template compliance, and adoption trends — providing leadership with actionable improvement recommendations.
Business Process Analysis & Workflow Design
  • Analyze and document existing SCDE business processes and workflows, identifying opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve handoff clarity, and increase accountability using Asana automations and rules.
  • Partner with program offices, OIT teams, and division directors to elicit business requirements and translate them into structured Asana workflows, project plans, and reporting configurations.
  • Conduct process mapping sessions, stakeholder interviews, and gap analyses to inform workflow redesign initiatives across administrative, instructional, and IT service delivery functions.
Project Intake, Forms & Automation
  • Design, build, and refine Asana Forms to standardize how IT service requests, project intake submissions, and cross-division work requests are captured and routed.
  • Build and maintain Asana automation rules — including trigger-and-action logic for task assignment, status notifications, due date adjustments, and cross-project dependencies — to reduce manual coordination burden.
  • Develop and manage project templates that allow program offices to initiate new projects consistently and with appropriate governance controls from the start.
Reporting, Dashboards & Executive Visibility
  • Design and maintain Asana dashboards, portfolios, and reporting views that give OIS and division leadership real-time visibility into project status, milestone progress, workload distribution, and delivery risks.
  • Produce regular project health and portfolio summary reports for agency leadership; identify trends, flag risks, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the data and analytics team to connect Asana data with broader agency reporting…
