Job Description & How to Apply Below
The Perk:
True Schedule Flexibility
We understand that the standard 9-to-5 doesn't fit every talented lawyer’s life.
- Choose Your Hours: We prefer a consistent schedule of approximately 20 hours per week, though you may work up to 37.5 hours if desired.
- Customize Your Week: You do not have to work all five days. You help set the schedule that stays consistent week-to-week.
- Long-Term Stability: While this is a contract position, it is an ongoing role with long-term potential.
Working under general supervision, the selected candidate will:
- Analyze Evidence: Identify gaps in evidence and organize demonstrative exhibits for presentation.
- Conduct Research: Perform substantive legal research into professional practices (e.g., medical, real estate, building) as they relate to disciplinary actions.
- Draft Legal Documents: Prepare settlement agreements, pleadings, and preliminary orders (such as injunctions or temporary suspensions).
- Manage Case Flow: Use agency dockets and management systems to ensure all legal matters move forward within strict timelines.
- Consult & Collaborate: Work independently to assess the legal sufficiency of requests while coordinating closely with witnesses and support staff.
- Education: A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Experience: You must be a practicing attorney. While any experience is required, two (2) years of practice is highly preferred.
- Local Expertise: A solid grasp of South Carolina laws and judicial/quasi-judicial procedures.
- Analytical Skill: The ability to take a pile of facts and evidence and turn them into a logical, clear legal argument.
- Versatility: An interest in learning the nuances of different professions to better understand disciplinary proceedings.
- Pay Range: $30.00 – $50.00 per hour (The upper end of the range is reserved for very seasoned candidates).
- Benefits: We offer health insurance for candidates who meet eligibility requirements.
- Employment Status: You will be a W-2 employee of our staffing agency, not the government agency itself.
If you are a self-motivated attorney looking for a meaningful way to use your JD without the burnout of traditional firm life, we want to hear from you. Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your preferred weekly schedule.
Our Agency is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We bridge the gap between talented legal professionals and rewarding government opportunities.
