Under limited supervision of the Faculty Director of the Veterans’ Legal Clinic, the VLC Staff Attorney represents South Carolina veterans, service members, and their family members in civil legal matters. The Staff Attorney focuses on VLC’s core docket of veterans benefits appeals and discharge upgrades, but has the flexibility to take on other civil legal matters and advocacy projects in consultation with the Faculty Director as well.
The Staff Attorney collaborates with the VLC paralegal, as well as students and other staff to reach our target population and deliver excellent legal services.
- Legal experience, including internship or law school clinic experience, in veterans’ benefits claims, other administrative appeals, or civil legal services preferred.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
- Proven extensive legal experience in veterans’ benefits claims or other public benefits appeals and related areas.
- Ability to collaborate with law school faculty, staff and students.
- Ability to work for and with veterans in need who will be requesting clinical assistance.
