Forklift Operator
Reeves Construction Company is looking for an experienced Asphalt Plant Operator for the Reeves - Columbia Asphalt Plant. The operator will manage asphalt plant controls, weigh and deliver specified quantities of aggregates and asphalt cement to the dryer for heating, and to the mixer for mixing and dumping into trucks. Additional duties include maintaining proper heat in the dryer, adjusting thermostatic controls, and ensuring proper flow of materials.
MainResponsibilities
- Safely operate and maintain asphalt plant and construction equipment
- Determine proper quantities of materials needed to produce asphalt
- Adjust controls to regulate the flow of materials
- Maintain the speed of systems
- Ensure the plant operates at the proper temperature
- Perform walk‑around and site inspections for all equipment to identify and correct unsafe conditions
- Conduct preventive maintenance to keep equipment properly maintained and serviced
- Communicate with quality control personnel and adjust material blends as needed
- Monitor inventory levels of all mix materials
- Monitor production levels and adjust production as needed
- Supervise employees at the plant and train employees as needed
- Ability to weld using an arc welder and cutting torch
- Monitor plant site to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow
- Troubleshoot, problem‑solve, and discuss production problems with co‑workers and supervisors
- Accurately complete plant reports and other documentation, entering reports into the computer system
- Clean control house and yard facility daily
- Maintain good customer relations
- Willingness to perform and assist with other job positions as requested
- 2 or more years of Plant Operator experience
- Excellent verbal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to handle several projects at once while meeting tight deadlines
- High attention to detail and basic math calculation skills; comprehension of percentage basis calculation
- Excellent safety awareness and willingness to comply with company policies and safety standards
- Reliable transportation; willing to work periods of evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime
- Must wear proper safety attire at all times
- Continuous mental and visual attention required for safe and effective task completion
- Positive and cooperative attitude with supervisors, co‑workers, customers, and the general public
- Valid Driver's License preferred
- Must be able to provide documentation proving legal right to work in the United States
This position requires lifting, pulling, and pushing a minimum of 50 lbs, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, squatting, twisting, and climbing heavy equipment several times daily. The candidate must work at heights up to 6 ft and be on their feet regularly, use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly, and work in confined areas. The role also requires sitting for extended periods, seeing with or without corrective lenses, and performing essential job tasks in varying temperatures, humidity, sand, wind, or extreme inclement weather.
Exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease, oils, loud or constant noise, and moving equipment may occur.
