Duties and Responsibilities- Ensure all safety equipment, guards, and devices are in place and follow safe work procedures.
- Check cups on shift to verify they are not compromised by the plant.
- Inspect the coil for dents and holes during changeover before rotating mandrels into position.
- Install the coil on the off mandrel in an overlap position, ensuring proper direction during changeover.
- Rotate the coil while the machine is in manual mode using the unwinder during changeover.
- Visually inspect cups once per shift for defects such as excessive earing, score marks, , pinching, thinning at radius, lube and hairing.
- Shutdown the machine when a defective can is detected.
- Identify and record cups by date and shift on the bottom of cuts before sorting them on the station’s process control board.
- Remove scraps from the die of the press before starting the machine.
- Pull 5 consecutive samples for an equipment set-up evaluation from the bodymaker after tooling change verification.
- Add oils to ironers as needed for proper operation.
- Adjust the dome for depth to meet customer specifications.
- Clear jams from bodymaker and trimmer.
- Conduct daily or monthly lubrication on ironers for normal operation.
- Identify trim quality problems and check three cans of the trimmer every two hours for dimension accuracy.
- Verify proper ring size to meet customer specifications.
- Set timing for cup infeed, can blowoff, and discharge pocket for bodymaker.
- Operate ironers and trimmers during daily production runs.
- Adjust trim heights to meet Crown’s specifications for finish.
- Check the cup elevator for damage or scrap cups after a die jam.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good record‑keeping skills.
- Good listening skills.
- Accurate measurement capability.
- Basic spoken and written English proficiency.
Must regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May lift or move up to 10 pounds. Requires good close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Working ConditionsWorks in a plant environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic, wide range of temperatures, and high noise levels. Some duties may be performed in a typical office setting.
