About the role:As a Manufacturing Manager, you will lead a team of machinists, electricians, and technicians at our Manning, SC location. This team manufactures tooling, parts, and assemblies that support nuclear power plant outage field projects, and engineering development projects. The Manufacturing Department has an in-house machine shop and a mechanical/electrical assembly shop.
You will report to the Manager of Field Service Operations and be located at our Manning, SC site. This is an onsite position that requires 5 days in office. You will work Monday through Friday during the day, but there will be some opportunities for shift work, weekend work, or off-hours support for special projects.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead a group of employees to succeed in the safe daily operation of machining and assembly activities to support power plant outage work. You will be accountable for the daily activities of machining (CNC and manual) and assembly operations to meet the standards required in the nuclear industry. Follow the demanding schedules needed to satisfy customer requirements.
- Implement a manufacturing schedule/calendar as a planning tool for outage project support. Make or influence decisions regarding work acceptance by conveying capabilities, workload, and deadlines. Transmit routine communications regarding manufacturing priorities.
- Plan and assign work, implement procedures, and recommend and implement improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions to enhance Safety, Quality, Delivery, People, and Cost.
- Organize resources through routine meetings and communications. Oversee and improve the performance of shop machinists and the manufacturing group. Track and improve work productivity and reduce waste of materials and labor hours. Determine and implement necessary training to ensure team proficiency.
- Oversee budget and spending. Make decisions on make‑vs‑buy and labor use to enhance performance. Institute cost controls in the manufacturing process. Ensure accurate tracking of material and labor costs associated with project support. Use cost tracking tools to inform the bidding process. Record and report production costs related to projects. Curate the selection of outside vendors to support outsourced work.
- Assess manufacturing capabilities and gaps and implement requisite improvements. Monitor capital assets (machining equipment) and develop a maintenance, replacement/improvement plan to ensure specialty machining capabilities support requirements. Plan for replacement and upgrade of obsolete manufacturing equipment.
- Establish standards and processes for planning, organizing, communicating, and monitoring department resources. Ensure the effective use of employees, equipment, and materials while meeting safety, regulatory, quality, productivity, and financial requirements. Meet customer requirements for product quality and shipments. Determine appropriate priority for work requests and provide feedback to requesters.
- Foster a safety and quality-conscious environment through the use and reinforcement of Human Performance tools and Nuclear Safety Culture Traits and Behaviors. Coach, train, and hold employees accountable for demonstrating safe behavior in the workplace.
- Set goals aligned with company objectives to guide organizational performance. Lead with safety. Ensure personnel compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality requirements. Monitor personnel and the area to observe unfavorable trends through the use of Visual Management and observations. Communicate discrepancies and solicit support.
