Job Description

A Grinding Room Technician is responsible for finishing and preparing copper castings by removing flash, cutting gates, polishing surfaces, and ensuring all parts meet quality and safety standards. This role requires hands-on mechanical skill, familiarity with belt sanders, industrial saws, and other grinding equipment, and the ability to work safely in a high-material-handling environment.

Responsibilities

• Polishing & Sanding:
  Use belt sanders to polish 'lashes' and smooth surfaces on copper castings to meet finish requirements.
• Flash Removal:
  Remove flash, excess material, and rough edges from castings using grinders, sanders, and hand tools.
• Surface Cleanup:
  Clean and refine casting surfaces to prepare parts for machining, coating, or final inspection.
• Gate Cutting:
  Operate saws to cut gates, risers, and other casting attachments safely and accurately.
• Equipment Operation:
  Operate grinding wheels, belt sanders, cutoff saws, and other finishing equipment.
• Quality Inspection:
  Inspect castings for defects, surface quality, and dimensional accuracy; report issues to supervisors.
• Material Handling:
  Move, position, and secure castings using hoists, carts, or manual lifting as required.
• Safety Compliance:
  Follow PPE requirements, maintain a clean work area, and adhere to all grinding room safety protocols.
• Experience with hand tools and power tools.
• Familiarity with production processes involving grinders and grinding equipment.

The role is based in a shop environment, requiring adherence to safety protocols and PPE requirements. The first shift and second shift schedules provide flexibility, with a four-day workweek featuring nine-hour days from Monday to Thursday, and shorter hours on Friday.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Abbeville, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $14.50 - $15.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
