The Philanthropy Officer is key member of the Resource Development team and plays an important role in growing the individual giving revenue and works in coordination with the AVP of Major Gifts and Endowments. This position will work with the UWM Resource Development Team growing Tocqueville Society within workplace campaigns. This position works closely with the UWM Resource Development team to grow the Tocqueville Society within workplace campaigns and serves as a relationship-driven fundraising professional who cultivates donor engagement and advances philanthropic growth.
The AVP of Major Gifts and Endowments is responsible for the management of this role and works in partnership with this person to accomplish growing revenue for United Way of the Midlands.
Position Responsibilities - Essential Donor Cultivation, Solicitation and Stewardship- Build and maintain strong relationships with Major Gift and Tocqueville donors current and prospective donors to encourage increased giving and long-term engagement.
- Support stewardship efforts for Tocqueville Society members and other major donors through personalized outreach and follow-up especially using year-round strategies for those major gift and Tocqueville donors inside workplace campaigns.
- Assist in identifying potential donor growth opportunities by deepening donor involvement and connect supporters to UWM’s mission and impact so they understand the impact of their giving.
- Prepare timely, thoughtful correspondence, presentations, reports and material that support donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship throughout the engagement process.
- Maintain accurate records of donor interactions, activity and giving trends in the United Way CRM.

Workplace Campaigns and Major Gifts and Tocqueville Society Growth- Work collaboratively with the Campaign Directors team, United Way Volunteers, to identify and implement a separate leadership kickoff to support the growth of major gifts and Tocqueville Society giving within workplace campaigns.
- Assist with strategy, outreach, and coordination efforts aimed at increasing individual leadership giving use as a year-round strategy to keep donors engaged with United Way’s mission, purpose so they understand the impact of their giving.
- Track activity and progress related to campaign engagement and Tocqueville Society growth to show efforts applied and the growth of new leadership givers per strategy.
- Work closely with the AVP of Major Gifts and Endowments to support revenue growth strategies and donor priorities.
- Intentionally engage volunteers, board members, Community Impact employees, to work on creating peer to peer cultivation events with the goal to secure a higher level of giving and engagement with United Way.
- Represent United Way of the Midlands in a professional and mission-centered manner when in public events and settings.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure consistent messaging and high-quality donor experience.
- Assist with special projects and initiatives that support the success of the Resource Development team.
- Motivated, attentive to detail, relationship-oriented professional who is passionate about community impact and committed to growing United Way revenue by donor engagement, and eager to contribute to a collaborative team working to improve lives across the Midlands now and for future generations.
- Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to engage donors, partners and community stakeholders effectively.
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising, donor relations, sales, account management, non-profit development or related field.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism, responsiveness, and follow-through.
- Self starter that is detail-oriented: demonstrated high degree of accuracy in work, strength in creating detailed plans, ability to meet deadlines, self-organized and proficiency in managing a project from beginning to end
- 3 to 5 years experience in development or sales-related job with successful outcomes
- Ability to prioritize tasks/projects under tight deadlines and deliver outcomes
- Bachelors degree or relevant education and experience in related field
- Effective communications: excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to “read” the climate and tailor communications to meet collaborators and audience where they’re at in the moment
- Track record of high-level customer service that models over-delivery of experience
- Proficiency with MS Office, Canva, Excel/Power BI and social media amplification tools
