The Outpatient Nurse (RN) is responsible for the provision of nursing care based on standards of care and professional nursing practice. The Outpatient Nurse is accountable for the outcomes of nursing care delivered in an outpatient setting that performs specialized procedures.
Responsibilities- Accompany patients to exam rooms, prepare patients for exams, perform and document vital signs, assist with office procedures, prepare and administer medications authorized by physicians, and draw blood.
- Provide patient education about office policies, medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
- Retrieve lab and x‑ray reports, call in prescriptions, perform telephone triage, obtain referrals and authorizations, and complete medical forms.
- Order medical and office supplies, stock exam rooms, clean rooms and instruments, and dispose of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.
- Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation and other front‑office duties as assigned.
- Coordinate pre‑operative workup and provide patient education related to procedures.
- Contact patients prior to procedures to review the pre‑op checklist and document communications.
- Assist with patient preparation, including assessment and monitoring before, during, and after an outpatient procedure.
- Assist patients and families with post‑procedure instructions.
- Education:
ADN required; BSN preferred. - Experience:
general experience in a physician office setting (preferred). - Skills and Abilities:
high level of customer service orientation; proficient PC and computer skills; phlebotomy skills and experience; excellent communication skills; ability to multitask. - Licenses and
Certifications:- Registered Nurse – South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (required).
- Basic Life Support Certified – American Heart Association within 30 days (required).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certified – American Heart Association (preferred).
- Light‑Medium physical demand.
