RN PACU Mid Shift

Overview

Your job is more than a job. As a Recovery Room Nurse, you are a vital part of the Post Anesthesia Critical Unit (PACU) following radiology, cath lab, special procedures or surgery. When patients are still under anesthesia, you monitor breathing, pain, vital signs, surgical site, and oxygen levels closely, reacting promptly to any changes and seeking team support when necessary.

The hours are short but critical, and your work leaves patients and families feeling cared for and confident in their recovery.

• Organize, prioritize, and coordinate post‑operative patient care such as checking lines, tubes, drains, managing pain, and positioning.
• Educate patients and families on home care after discharge.
• Perform required clinical documentation and post‑operative assessments.
• Monitor patients for pain, complications, and wound healing or infection, following Joint Commission infection control and environment of care requirements.
• Intervene promptly for postoperative complications and perform CPR or other emergency measures if required.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to identify and meet patient care needs, and advocate for safe environments.
• Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, clear communication, and an exceptional experience for every patient.
• Initiate patient and family education on operation and post‑operative care as required.

• Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana, as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Current ACLS and PALS certifications.
• Preferred: BSN, at least one year in a related clinical area, and certification as a Critical Care Nurse or Post Anesthesia Nurse.
