Certified Nursing Aide
Position Summary:
The Certified Nursing Aide is responsible for providing routine daily nursing care to assigned patients to assure patient safety and attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well‑being of each patient in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and MUSC Health standards.

- Report to unit nurse.
- Attend and participate in continuing education programs.
- Work in department as well as throughout the facility.
- Subject to frequent interruptions.
- Involved with patients, care team members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions and circumstances.
- Subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, etc.
- Work beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily as necessary.
- Subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday.
- Possible exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and hepatitis B viruses.
Licensure/Certification s
- Graduate of a State‑approved CNA program.
- Currently registered/licensed in applicable State with an active license in good standing throughout employment.
- One (1) year geriatric nursing experience preferred.
- CPR certification upon hire or obtained during orientation and must remain current thereafter.
- Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm as well as willingness to handle difficult patients.
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Knowledgeable of nursing practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing functions in the post‑acute care facility.
- Ability to implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the nursing department.
- Perform proficiently in all applicable competency areas.
- Maintain professional working relationships with all care team members, vendors, etc.
- Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
- Understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures.
- Display integrity and professionalism by adhering to MUSC Health’s Code of Conduct and complete mandatory Code of Conduct and other appropriate compliance training.
- Lift, turn, move, position, and transport patients.
- Assist patients with baths, showers, personal grooming, feeding, and toileting.
- Accurately document and chart patient care.
- Respond to call lights promptly.
- Exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients.
- Assist in the evacuation of patients.
- Demonstrate dependable, regular attendance.
- Concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment.
- Communicate and function productively on an interdisciplinary team.
- Sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours.
- Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Lift 35 lbs floor to waist, lift 35 lbs waist to shoulder, lift and carry 35 lbs, and push/pull 35 lbs.
Job Description
CNA Certification with South Carolina Nurse Aide Registry required. Completion of accredited Nurse Assistant Program.
