What You'll Do
As a Charge Nurse, you will Supervise daily nursing activities to ensure high-quality care in compliance with all applicable regulations and as directed by nursing leadership.
Responsibilities include:
- Compliance & Coordination:
Ensure nursing staff follow procedures and policies; coordinate with other departments to support comprehensive resident care; participate in surveys and inspections as needed. - Resident Admissions & Transfers:
Oversee resident admissions, discharges, and room transfers; welcome new residents, ensure room readiness, and assist with transport and communication with families and funeral homes as needed. - Supervision & Staffing:
Monitor staffing levels, absenteeism, and performance; participate in evaluations, hiring recommendations, and supervision of nurse aides and trainees; provide leadership and ensure adequate coverage. - Care Oversight & Documentation:
Monitor resident conditions, treatments, and care plans; make rounds with physicians; requisition diagnostics; maintain accurate nursing notes and ensure care is delivered per plan and resident preferences. - Family & Physician Communication:
Notify families and physicians of significant condition changes; meet with residents and families to address concerns and resolve grievances per established procedures. - Training & Infection Control:
Lead orientation and in-service education; ensure staff are trained in blood borne pathogen protocols; maintain adequate PPE and clean, safe environments. - Clinical Support & Emergency Response:
Provide direct nursing care as needed; authorize restraints per policy; support monitoring of critically ill residents; obtain lab specimens and record vital signs. - Supplies & Equipment:
Ensure availability of medications, medical supplies, and equipment; maintain cleanliness of nurses' stations and care areas. - Resident Rights & Dignity:
Promote residents’ rights to privacy and treatment refusal; ensure staff knock before entering rooms and uphold respectful, dignified care. - Assessment & Care Planning:
Participate in care plan development and updates; encourage resident involvement; ensure plans are communicated and followed by care staff. - Reporting & Problem Solving:
Complete incident reports, handle complaints and grievances from residents and staff, and report issues to nursing leadership with follow-up actions. - Environment & Atmosphere:
Foster a calm, welcoming, and respectful atmosphere throughout the unit and during all shifts.
Qualifications
- Education & Licensure:
Nursing degree or approved LN program graduate with an active, unencumbered state LN license. - Experience:
At least one year of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting. - Clinical Knowledge:
Trained in rehabilitative and restorative nursing; familiar with current nursing practices and procedures. - Regulatory Awareness:
Knowledgeable of long-term care laws, regulations, and guidelines. - Communication
Skills:
Able to read, write, speak, and understand English effectively. - Leadership & Interpersonal
Skills:
Capable of making independent decisions and leading staff with professionalism and tact.
