Job Description Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads by example as a hands‑on manager, stepping in to assist technicians with complex or urgent tasks when required.
  • Provides daily leadership, supervision/guidance, and mentorship to Biomedical Technicians I-III, fostering technical growth and professional development.
  • Oversees staffing levels, workload distribution, preventive maintenance completion rates, and on‑call coverage across all Biomedical divisions.
  • Supports onboarding of new technicians and coordinates ongoing technical training and education.
  • Assigns, prioritizes, and manages work orders to ensure timely completion and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Reviews and approves team documentation within the CMMS to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and preventive maintenance on a wide range of biomedical equipment, including high‑risk and life‑support devices.
  • Leads and assists with complex repairs, equipment installations, system integrations, and technology deployments.
  • Ensures all work meets manufacturer specifications, hospital policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitors equipment performance trends and recommends replacements, upgrades, or process improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency.
  • Maintains a professional image and delivers exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and staff in alignment with Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for clinical departments, addressing equipment concerns, service needs, and customer issues promptly and effectively.
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of electrical safety principles, planned maintenance programs, and proper documentation practices.
  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation of all service activities within the organization’s database systems.
  • Supports internal audits and external inspections by maintaining compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, FDA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as liaison to external service organizations and vendors providing biomedical support to McLeod Health.
  • Coordinates vendor activities, monitors service quality, and ensures adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related technical field (Bachelor’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 7 years of biomedical equipment experience, including advanced technical responsibilities; supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical equipment technology, electrical safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with CMMS systems and technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and customer service skills.
Licenses and/or Certifications
  • Relevant certifications (BMET, CBET, CHTM, or equivalent) highly desirable.
